About the approach

What is functional interior design?

It starts with how your home works, not just how it looks. We look at how you actually move through and use your space, then redesign the layout, flow and storage so daily life runs more smoothly. A beautiful room that still fights you every morning hasn’t solved the real problem.

How is this different from an organiser or an interior decorator?

An organiser tidies the symptom — but if the layout caused the mess, it creeps back. A decorator makes a space look beautiful, usually around aesthetics rather than routines. We redesign how the home functions, so the change actually holds.

Who is this for?

Busy families, people facing burnout, chronic illness or a big life change, and neurodivergent households — anyone whose home isn’t working with how they really live. If your space feels like it’s fighting you, this is for you.

What you get with each service

Home Function Discovery Call — $250

A one-hour video consultation to find the key issues and point you in the right direction.

  • A short pre-call questionnaire, so we use the time well
  • A live video walk-through of your space and the problems
  • Practical first recommendations — at least one quick win for that week
  • A follow-up email summarising what we covered
Home Function Audit — $750 (or $500 within 30 days of a Discovery Call)

A detailed in-home assessment of your space, storage, routines and friction points, written up clearly.

  • A pre-audit questionnaire and preparation
  • An in-home walk-through (around 90 minutes), watching how the home is really used
  • A written functional report with findings
  • A prioritised fix list — graded high, medium and low by daily impact

If you’ve had a Discovery Call, the $250 fee is credited toward the Audit when you book within 30 days — so it becomes $500.

Functional Design Plan — from $2,750

A comprehensive redesign strategy that restructures how your whole home works.

  • A complete, room-by-room plan
  • Zoning that separates jobs that currently collide (cooking, homework and mail, say)
  • Storage placed at the point of use, not just where it looks tidy
  • A sequenced plan you can implement in affordable stages, at your pace

Quoted per project, from $2,750, to suit your home and scope.

3D Visualisation & Implementation — contact for pricing

A spatial model so you can see the changes clearly before you commit.

  • A 3D model of the proposed design
  • Visual clarity to make confident decisions and avoid costly mistakes
  • Design plans and sourcing support to help bring it to life

Quoted per project — get in touch for a tailored price.

Choosing between services

What’s the difference between the Discovery Call and the Audit?

The Call tells you what’s wrong and gives you a quick win. The Audit goes into your home, works out why, and hands you a written, prioritised fix list. The Call is the conversation; the Audit is the in-home deep-dive that gets to the bottom of it.

What’s the difference between the Audit and the Design Plan?

The Audit tells you what’s wrong and what to tackle first. The Design Plan is the full solution — the room-by-room redesign that fixes it. Think of the Audit as where you find out what to tackle first, and the Plan as the full fix.

What’s the difference between the Design Plan and 3D Visualisation?

The Design Plan is the strategy on paper. The 3D Visualisation lets you see it in three dimensions before you spend money making it real — so you commit with confidence, not a leap of faith.

Practical questions

Do I have to do all four steps?

No. Each stands on its own. Most people start with a Discovery Call or an Audit and decide from there. There’s never any pressure to go further than is useful for you.

Do you do the building work or renovations?

Not at this stage. The focus is the design, the plan and the visuals. We don’t manage contractors or trades yet, though we’re glad to point you in a sensible direction.

Are services in person or online?

The Discovery Call is a video consultation. The Audit is in-home, across Lake Macquarie, Newcastle and the Central Coast. Reports and plans are delivered digitally.

What makes you qualified?

A builder’s daughter — so I grew up around how homes are actually put together. Add to that a Diploma of Interior Design, Cert IV in Kitchen & Bathroom Design and in Interior Decoration, Fast-Track Clutter Clearing, and Biophilic Design — plus a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) and 20 years in management accounting. In short, a designer who reads a home like a balance sheet: the analytical training to show why a layout will work, not just how it looks. And having lived the problem myself, I design with real empathy for how busy, full lives actually run.

How do I get started?

Book a Home Function Discovery Call, or send a message with a little about your space and what’s not working. We’ll take it from there.

Booking, payment & your peace of mind

How and when do I pay?

In full when you book — that’s what secures your spot. Your booking’s confirmed once payment comes through, and you’ll get a receipt.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

Life happens. Reschedule once at no charge with at least four days’ notice. Cancel with more than four days’ notice and you’re refunded, less a small preparation fee ($100 for a Discovery Call, $250 for an Audit) for the work already done for you. Within four days, or a no-show, isn’t refundable — but your rights under Australian Consumer Law always apply. Full details are in our Cancellation & Refund Policy.

Will our sessions be recorded?

Only with your okay. We sometimes record a call or take a few photos during a visit so we can prepare your report accurately — and we’ll always ask first.

What about the personal things I share?

Some of what helps most — like how your household experiences daily life, including any health or neurodiversity context — is sensitive. Sharing it is your choice, we use it only to tailor your design, and we keep it private and secure. More in our Privacy Policy.

Will you share photos of my home?

Never without your written permission. If you’re happy for us to, we’ll ask you to tick exactly what you’re comfortable with on a simple consent form — and you can say no to any of it.
